Castles of Provence

Erster Übernachtungsplatz beim Winzer in Burgund

"We went all the way through the South of France. We crossed the border into France near Karlsruhe and then first went to Nancy and to the Monastery Fontenay in Burgundy. Then we continued on to Switzerland through the Jurassic to the Lake Geneva. Then to cover some disance we went to Lyon, St.Etienne, Clermont-Ferrand towards South until the Viaduct Millau (the longest rope bridge in the world).

After visiting the Templar-village  "La Couvertoirade" (very much worthwhile) we went to the coast of the Mediterranean; Montpellier, Narbonne. The next day the weather was not so good and we headed more inland. The castles of he Cathareans were our goal. Drove/ walked up to Château Quéribus (728m) 12% we still went in the campervan. The last bit with 17% uphill we walked. From up there we had a eautiful view onto the hills of the Corbiere-Range.

After that 2 days swimming in the Mediterranean near Perpignan and the slowly back up North. First of course a visit to  Carcassonne, after that the castles of  "Châteaux Lastours" (4 Castles on one hill). Via Millau we drove to Clermont-Ferrand where we visited a french medieaval festival. We have to say, this was something quite different than at home in Germany. Our next station was the Castle-Construction site "Guedelon" in Burgundy. Here a real knight's castle is being re-built with the means and methods of 800 years ago. Hands on history and experimental acheology at the same time. completion is planned for 2025.

Next was the village of  Domremy-la-Pucelle. Here we visited the birth place and museum of Jeanne d'Arc. Our last station before returning to Dresden was a visit to Metz. This was in short what we did and saw on our "Tour de France".

We mainly stayed on overnight parkings in the  France-Passion program. This means Vintners, Farmers and once at a country inn. This work perfect for us and this way we always had enough wine... :)
Overall we much enjoyed this trip with the campervan. It will definitely not be the last trip of this kind. "Tour de France 2.0" is already in planning.
